Some people run into problems with factory reseting their devices. This method is full proof and will work no matter how much you've soft bricked your device. This guide is for Window only.

Follow these simple steps:
  1. Download the Motorola Device Drivers from their website: https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/88481
  2. Install said drivers.
  3. Download the Android SDK tools: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/37696796/platform-tools.zip
  4. Extract these tool anywhere on you PC, go into the folder and hold shift and right click anywhere on the empty space of the folder and choose "Open command window here" in the drop-down menu.
  5. Boot you phone into fastboot (bootloader) by pressing and holding down the Power Button and Volume Down keys together on your phone until your phone restarts. Let go and you should be booted into the bootloader.
  6. Plug your phone into you PC with a data cable and wait for the drivers to install.
  7. In the command prompt window type the following commands
    fastboot devices
    fastboot erase userdata
    fastboot erase cache
    fastboot reboot
  8. Your phone should now be back to it's factory condition and restarting into Android

  • First off, thanks for the info.  Tried this with my Moto Atrix HD and i am right back to the boot loop.  AFAIK this device has never been rooted and was running stock everything.  One day it went into a boot loop and I have not touched it since (6 months ago or so) but i pulled it out and decided to try to fix it and after hours of failure i got excited about this find but no luck.

Any ideas?  All of the commands you posted showed successful but after done it went right back to boot loop.

Same with me. I've unlocked the bootloader, installed a custom recovery, and then this, but the bootloop continues. I would be able to fix it if I was able to install a custom ROM through CWM or TWRP recovery but I can't get to it because the options aren't on the fastboot screen! (and adb doesn't work)
  • Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!  I used an app that disabled the OS as well as the Recovery and Factory options in the bootloader. I was afraid I'd have to send my phone in to have it fixed. You're my hero!

Made an account Just to Thank You Smoke!! :) My Moto E XT1022 was soft bricked and was stuck in bootloop. It didn't work at first attempt. I tried it once again and Voila! my device was factory restored. I'm archiving this post for future needs. Thank You not all heroes wear Capes B)
